Job Description
A 60-bed hospital in Central South Dakota is seeking Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists (CRNAs) for a high-paying locum tenens opportunity offering true solo practice, strong clinical autonomy, and rapid onboarding. This is a definite, ongoing assignment with flexible scheduling and the ability to work full-time or a minimum of two weeks per month, making it ideal for CRNAs seeking both income potential and schedule control.
The anesthesia department is an all-CRNA model consisting of six CRNAs, with five providers scheduled daily to cover three operating rooms, one procedure room, and a floating role. With the addition of locum coverage, staff CRNAs will return to post-call day-off status, improving overall workflow and sustainability. The facility runs three ORs daily and averages approximately 400 cases per month, or about 20 cases per day.
The case mix is broad and engaging, including general surgery, orthopedics, OB/GYN, ENT, urology, and ophthalmology. Approximately 40% of cases are general surgery, 40% orthopedics, and the remaining 20% include GYN, ENT, urology, and eye cases. Obstetric volume averages 30–40 deliveries per month with 3–4 C-sections weekly. CRNAs perform their own spinals, regional anesthesia for orthopedic cases, and labor epidurals. While epidural skills are required for providers who take call, the facility is willing to support locum CRNAs in strengthening regional skills as needed.
This role offers exceptional compensation with weekday pay at $250 per hour with an eight-hour daily minimum, overtime at $265 per hour, and generous call pay. Comprehensive travel, lodging, mileage, and meal reimbursements are provided, making this an attractive, low-expense assignment for experienced CRNAs comfortable practicing independently.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide independent anesthesia care across a diverse hospital-based case mix
- Perform spinals, regional anesthesia, and labor epidurals as indicated
- Manage anesthesia care from preoperative assessment through recovery
- Participate in optional weekday and weekend call coverage
- Document care accurately using the Meditech EMR system
Compensation & Benefits
- $250 per hour with 8-hour daily minimum
- $265 per hour for overtime and callback pay
- $400 weekday evening beeper call stipend
- $1,800 for 24-hour weekend call coverage
- Flights, mileage, rental car, lodging or housing allowance provided
- Meals reimbursed at $30 per scheduled day
Job Requirements

Schedule & Work Environment
- Daily schedule from 6:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
- First patient at 6:45 a.m.; first cut time by 7:30 a.m.
